According to the latest casino activity report from the Virginia Lottery, Caesars Virginia brought in a record-breaking $31.1 million in gaming revenue in February, resulting in nearly $1.9 million in gaming tax revenue for the city. Gaming revenue for the casino last month included about $21.5 million from slots and about $9.6 million from table games, according to the report. Public education ($2.8 million).
Public safety ($1.29 million).
Quality of housing ($884,532).
Quality of life ($1 million).
During 2023-24, that money covered key items including expansion of the city’s tourism program (about $508,000), purchase of property in the city’s historic districts ($200,000), historic enhancement grants ($225,000), an economic development incentive for Litehouse Foods ($144,480), recruitment of industries from other countries to the area ($100,000), studies and design for a parking deck at Lynn Street ($330,000), renovations and maintenance to the visitor center ($245,000), among other items.
Money from gaming tax revenues budgeted for the current year includes:
$4.5 million for operations.
About $2 million for community health.
$6.4 million for economic opportunity.
$1.8 million for city infrastructure.
About $2 million for long-term financial stability.
$1.7 million for public education.
$4.1 million for public safety.
$700,000 for quality of housing.
$1.4 million for quality of life.
